Qatar Steel became the first company in the Middle East and one of the four companies in the world to achieve “1 Rosette” rating for our good performance compared with other 22 certified companies complying only basic requirements of “PASS” rating, to be approved by the authority of UK CARES under sustainable construction steel certification scheme, for the production of continuous cast steel billets and hot rolled steel bar for the reinforcement of concrete. Launched in 2009, CARES Certification Scheme for Sustainable Constructional Steel is to ensure confidence in the constructional steel performance across all the aspects of sustainability, economic, social and environmental. In a special ceremony, Qatar Steel bid farewell to employees working in the Steel Making Dept. the Supply Chain & Logistics Dept. and the Maintenance & Engineering Dept. The ceremony was attended by MD & CEO and all Chief Officers heading different Departments. Mr. Mohammed Nasser Al Hajri, MD & CEO, thanked all of them individually for the contribution they made while working in Qatar Steel and wished best of luck for their life ahead. An appreciation certificate was handed over to each of the employees by MD & CEO himself. The presence of management and employees created a memorable ambience all around.

Qatar Steel organised a blood donation campaign at the Company’s headquarters in Mesaieed Industrial City (MIC) in collaboration with the Blood Donor Centre of Hamad Medical Corporation. The humanitarian drive was held as part of enhancing the commitment of Qatar Steel and its employees towards the community. The campaign’s aim is to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation as a humanitarian initiative. The celebration of the Sport Day is a reflection of the vision of Qatar 2030 that aims to raise awareness towards sport and its importance in the building of a nation and making it an essential part of the daily life of the people in Qatar. In consistent with the concept, Qatar Steel participated in the celebration of National Sport Day to promote the benefits of an active healthy lifestyle among its employees and their families. Qatar Steel has been accredited with an exclusive recognition on technical competence of having testing laboratory in a bid to realize the motto of building the future. Quality Assurance Laboratory of Qatar Steel is now accredited by TURKAK (Turkish Accreditation Institution, Turkey), for Chemical and Mechanical testing of carbon steel used for reinforcement of concrete in Qatar and worldwide. TURKAK is a signatory to the European co-operation for Accreditation and International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). In addition, Qatar Steel is the first steel company as on date has achieved a performance rating of “VERY GOOD” for the prestigious BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing Certification from CARES UK after the successful reassessment audit conducted along with CARES SCS Scheme Surveillance Audit. Qatar Steel participated in ‘BEAT DIABETES’ awareness campaign at Mesaieed plant site and as part of its CSR initiatives in association with Qatar Metabolic Institutes (QMI, Hamad Corporation) to stem the tide of this rapidly increasing worldwide epidemic. Almost every employees of different nationalities took the initiatives to participate in the campaign and received the result of assessment done on their blood samples. Many employees who were not aware of the conditions, and about its seriousness, found the campaign very helpful and eye opener. This awareness campaign was aimed at promoting early diagnosis, and preventing or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes. Two separate interactive sessions were planned for the employees. Detailed illustrations were presented and question and answer sessions were encouraged and responded by QMI and Qatar Steel Medical Doctor at length to remove misconceptions about the disease.
