In appreciation of its support and sponsorship of the sixth Disaster Management Camp (DMC-6), held last April by Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) at the Marine Scout Camp in Al Khor, Qatar Steel was honored among other sponsors of the camp. The recognition ceremony was under the patronage of HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani. The event was attended by representatives of government and non-government companies, which supported the camp, either logistically, technically or financially. In his speech, the Secretary-general of Qatar Red Crescent, Mr. Saleh Bin Ali al-Mohannadi thanked all the companies and institutions which supported and sponsored the camp, and through this support, it expressed its belief in QRC’s message and role to achieve its humanitarian vision inside and outside Qatar. In compliance with its Qatarization plan, and as part of its efforts to attract young nationals to join the company, Qatar Steel participated in the Career Open Day, organized by Qatar Independent Technical School (QITS).  A great number of local industrial and educational companies and institutions took part in this event. Qatar Steel aims at familiarizing the students with the job opportunities available at its various departments, and to attract those who are talented and highly motivated, to start their careers at the company in the future. Qatar Steel organizes special training internships programs, designed for high school students in general, and for those of QITS in particular. Training opportunities are given to the students at Qatar Steel’s plants in Mesaied Industrial City. In line with its corporate social responsibility, Qatar Steel participated in the celebration held by Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs on the occasion of World Day for Safety and Health at Work and the International Workers Day.  The event was held, under HE Dr. Abdullah Saleh Mubarak Al-Khulaifi, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, at Doha Industrial Area. Officials from the Ministry, Directorate of Civil defense, Supreme Council of Health (SCH), Qatar Red Crescent and the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), leaders of different expatriate communities attended the event, along with some 500 workers from about 100 companies. The event was intended to focus on the importance of occupational and health safety, to raise awareness among workers, and how to maintain a healthy and safe work environment. Qatar Steel honors 206 Employees

In appreciation of their devoted efforts and dedication, Qatar Steel recently honored 206 employees, who served the company for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 and for the first time, those who spent 40 years in service. With a view to provide academic guidance to high school students, and help them choose the right career paths, Qatar Steel participated, as an official sponsor, in 4th Annual Career Fair for Universities & Work Sectors, held at Al-Wakra Secondary Independent School. A great number of local and overseas industrial companies, universities and educational institutions took part in the fair. The event was attended by Mr. Ali Al Buainain, Director of the Scholarship Office at Higher Education Institute, Mr. Ahmed Al-Buainain, Chairman of School’s Trustees Council, Dr. Saleh Al-Ibrahim, vice school principal for Administrative and students Affairs, a number of independent school principals, event’s sponsors and other officials from government offices and institutions. A group of 20 students with some teachers from Al-Jamilia Primary & Secondary Independent School visited Qatar Steel’s plant site in Mesaieed Industrial City. The visit aimed at getting a first-hand insight into steel manufacturing. After welcoming the guests at the plant, they were briefed about the steel plant and manufacturing process by some officials from Training and Development Dept. Later they were taken on a tour around the various units and sections of the plant. Upon leaving the company, the guests expressed their thanks and gratitude to Qatar Steel’s management for granting them such a valuable chance to visit the plant, and to be educated about the steel making, and to undergo such an exciting and useful experience, which might help them in their future careers.

The theme of the conference was “providing clarity and assurance in Qatar’s projects market to progress investment opportunities. Qatar Projects- MEED 2015 brings together government representatives, key project owners, developers, consultants and financiers in the sector to address the evolving challenges of Qatar’s project delivery market and highlight future project opportunities, strategic priorities and master plans. In Algeria the foundation stone was laid for the construction of a steel complex in the industrial area in Bellara of Jijel province, 375 kilometers east of Algeria, the capital. The ceremony of laying the first stone of the project was held under the auspices of H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Prime Minister of Qatar, and his Algerian counterpart, HE Abdelmalek Sellal. High ranking officials from both sides attended the ceremony. The steel complex will be producing 2.0 Million tons of finished products of Re-bar and wire rod. Algeria (represented by Sider Co. & National Investment Fund) will hold 51% stake, while Qatar Steel International will hold the remaining 49% (represented by Qatar Steel 24,5%, and Qatar Mining 24,5%).
