With the view to create a safer working environment, Qatar Steel celebrated occupational Safety and Health Day at its site in Mesaieed Industrial Area. A great number of employees and contractors attended the event. The program included presentations to generate awareness on security in general, heat stress, firefighting techniques, firefighting demonstration, road & traffic safety and etc. The event also included health tests to check up blood pressure, diabetes and others. Qatar Steel’s Safety Day aims at enhancing awareness on how to prevent the associated risks, and this year it focuses on ‘Falling from Height’ and to ensure that all employees must have access to training, handling equipment, and knowledge of preventative techniques before working at height. In recognition and appreciation of their efforts and dedication, Qatar Steel awarded 320 employees, who have completed 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of service.  The ceremony was held at QAPCO’s Club in Mesaieed Industrial City. Qatar Steel, one of the leading steel producers in the Middle East and Arabian Gulf, achieved a record production of more than one million tons of rebar at RM II, the company’s ultra-modern rolling mill. Mr. Ali Bin Hassan Al-Muraikhi, Managing Director & General Manager of Qatar Steel, said: “This major achievement would not have been possible without the support and relentless efforts by our dedicated and motivated team to improve the company’s operational and maintenance efficiency.” RM II was commissioned in 2007 with a production capacity of 700,000 tons/annum of rebar with sizes ranging from 8 mm ф to 40 mm ф in diameter. Qatar Steel participated in the 5th Annual Career Fair for Universities & Work Sectors, organized by Al-Wakra Secondary Independent School under the auspices of HE Dr. Mohammed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, to provide students and parents insight into the job market requirements and familiarize them with the prospective career and academic paths available. The inauguration ceremony was attended by the school principal, faculty and a number of high ranking officials and dignitaries from Ministry of Education and Higher Education, as well as government organizations and diplomatic missions accredited to Qatar. In support of the environmental awareness drive “Waste Free Environment” (WFE), launched by Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association (GPCA). Qatar Steel proactively took part in the environmental activity organized by Qatar Petrochemical Co. (QAPCO) at Al-Wakra Beach. Qatar Steel’s participation in the event emerges from the importance it attaches to the environmental protection, and in line with its efforts to boost this environmental drive and make it a success. A number of representatives of Qatar’s leading industrial companies participated in the event, as well as officials from various ministries and government organizations. In line with Qatar’s celebrations on the National Sports Day, Qatar Steel participated in the sporting activities at the park of Qatar Museum of Islamic Art. A great number of the company’s employees and their children took part in the event. Different activities and contests were held including sporting and fun activities for children and adults, who were so enthusiastic to participate and play. Prizes were given to the winners. A team from Qatar Steel’s IT department took part in the National Cyber Security Drill – Star – 3, held on 13th December 2015 at Qatar University. The event was organized by Qatar Computer Emergency Response Team (Q-CERT).The drill included a scenario of Cyber security simulation in a controlled environment designed to train and assess organization’s capabilities in responding to incidents, managing crisis, ability to have holistic business view on security and fostering communication within the sector and regulators.
