Qatar Steel Celebrates HSE Day

In our effort to protect our own employees, the society, and the environment in which they work and live, Qatar Steel celebrated Health, Safety & Environment Day at its site in Mesaieed Industrial Area on Sept 21, 2017 in line with WORLD STEEL Day. The event was focused to enhance awareness on safety in general, heat stress, firefighting techniques and demonstration, and road (traffic) safety, to name a few. The event was attended by Ministry of Interiors, Civil Defense and Red crescent, besides large number of contractors, Qatar Steel employees and top management. In line with Qatar Steel’s commitment to integrate HSE objectives into management systems at all levels and improve HSE management practices continually, the event aimed to spread better understanding on how to prevent HSE risks and keep the environment clean and safe. Due to its strategic importance, Qatar Steel took part in the 14th International Construction Technology & Building Materials Exhibition, “Project Qatar”, held under the auspices of the Prime Minister and Interior Minister, HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, from 8th – 11th May, 2014, at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC). Project Qatar was opened officially by HE Sheikh Ahmed Bin Jassim Bin Mohamed Al-Thani, Minister of Economy and Trade. Attended the event were Dr. Mohamed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, dignitaries from government authorities, leaders of building and construction companies locally and overseas. “Project Qatar” attracted about 516 local and international exhibitors from 33 countries from Qatar, Arabian Gulf and different parts of the world, who showcased up-to-date technology and state-of-the-art equipment, technological inventions and services in the constructions sector. In appreciation of their devoted efforts and dedication, Qatar Steel honored 285 employees, who have spent from 10 to 40 years in service. An awarding ceremony was held at Al-Reem Club in Mesaieed Industrial City. Attended the event were Mr. Ali Bin Hassan Al-Muraikhi, Qatar Steel’s Managing Director and General Manager, Division and department managers and senior employees. Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Al-Muraikhi said that through our recognition ceremony, we convey our gratitude and appreciation to our awardees for their committed efforts and devotion throughout their long service. In culmination of the persistent efforts to protect the environment, and recycle the industrial wastes, resulted from its steel manufacturing, for a better reuse and  investment, Qatar Steel held, on 11th April, 2017, a seminar on the optimization of steel slag in constructions and road asphalting. Attended the event were Dr. Eng. Saad Ahmed Ibrahim Al Mohannadi, President of Public Works Authority (Ashghal),     Dr Mohamed bin Saif Al-Kuwari, Assistant Undersecretary for laboratories and Standardization at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment,  Head of Environmental and Municipal Studies Institute. Qatar Steel participated in the Second Edition of Government Procurement & Contracting Conference and Exhibition ” Moushtarayat”. Which took place under the auspices of HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Interior Minister, and organized by Qatar Development Bank (QDB), in cooperation with Ministry of Finance, during 6- 8 April, 2017 at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC). QS Annual Sports were held from 19th February to 13th March 2017 at MIC sports Complex and Al Reem club in Mesaieed. Teams from different departments were formed to compete with each other, and the activities included football, basketball, cricket, lawn tennis, badminton and table tennis. The closing ceremony was held on 13th March, 2017, and was attended by a great number of employees and their families. Mr. Saed M. Alroomi, PRO Manager distributed the prizes to the winners. Qatar Steel’s management is keen to carry out annual sports activities for its employees’ welfare and motivation, in addition to keep them healthy and fit.

With a view to shed the light on job market requirements and to familiarize students and parents with the prospective career and academic paths available, Qatar Steel participated in the 6th Annual Career Fair for Universities & Work Sectors, organized by Al-Wakra Secondary School. The inauguration ceremony was held under the auspices of Mr. Mohamed Ali M. Mandani Al-Emadi, principal of Wakra Secondary school for boys and Mr. Ahmed Albueinin, Head of Trustees Council. Attended the event were school faculty, representatives of some educational institutions and public and private organizations, as well as government organizations and diplomatic missions accredited to Qatar. Qatar Steel participated in the Career Forum organized by Qatar University from 6th -9th March 2017, at the College of Business & Economics. Over 60 leading governmental and private organizations participated in the event, which was designed to provide ambitious, qualified and skilled students a platform to interact and engage directly with companies’ representatives and top prospective employers, to get insight into the work requirements and to find suitable job opportunities. Consistently with National Sports Day celebrations, Qatar Steel organized fun filled sports activities at the MIC Sports Complex in Mesaeed. Employees and their families were invited to participate in different sports activities planned for the day. The program consisted of a number of sports competitions and tournaments; football, basketball, handball, volleyball, cricket, tennis, short-distance running races. In addition to that, some other fun competitions were held, such as tug of war, recreational games for children like rope skipping and etc. Through celebrating the sports day, Qatar Steel aims at promoting the sports culture among our employees, encouraging them to do physical exercise on a regular basis, and make them indulge into sport as a routine and daily lifestyle. In coordination with the blood donor Centre at Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar Steel organized a blood donation drive at its plant site in Mesaieed. Employees from various departments and sections took part in the drive. The  blood donation drive comes in line with the company’s partnership and cooperation with the local medical organization, and in alliance of its corporate social responsibility policy, and in compliance with its humanitarian role to support the patients who are direly in need for blood, and to sustenance the blood stock in the hospital.
