A delegate of 35 PhD students from GCC Geographical Society visited Qatar Steel site in Mesaieed Industrial City on 15th Dec. 2015. They were escorted by some officials from Qatar University. The purpose of the visit was to view the company’s facilities and get a first-hand insight into steel manufacturing. The guests were welcomed by officials from Learning and Development Dept. and a presentation was given to them about the company’s steel making process, and rebar products. Later they were taken on a tour around the various units and sections of the plant. Upon leaving the company, the guests expressed their thanks and gratitude to Qatar Steel’s management for giving them the chance to visit the plant, and getting educated about steel making. It was such an exciting and useful experience for them, which might help them in their future careers.

With a view to attract and recruit national students, Qatar Steel organized a career open day, at the Marriott Hotel – Doha. Qatar Steel aims at familiarizing national students in general and the graduates in particular with the job opportunities available and the academic disciplines required, as well as to brief them about the training and development courses and internships programs the company provides. On this occasion, Mr. Ali Bin Hassan Al-Muraikhi, Managing Director and General Manager, declared that this initiative comes in terms of supporting our Qatarization Strategy, which is considered as one of the important policies adopted by the company’s management, in compliance with Qatar’s National Vision 2030 that focuses on national human resources and the need to provide them with all support required. Qatar Steel has been awarded the ISO 27001: 2013 certification for Information Security Management Systems, in recognition of its standardized and best practices in effective IT infrastructure management and Information Security management. The move comes, as Qatar Steel is looking to leverage on domestic and international expertise to provide an integrated information security system, and to embrace global standards in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements to further enhance its business objectives. In line with the cooperation existing between Qatar Steel and various organizations and educational institutions in Qatar, students of 13th batch Accountancy Department from Ahmed Bin Mohamed Military College-Doha visited Qatar Steel plant site in Mesaieed Industrial City, as part of their knowledge enhancement programs, meant to boost their academic knowledge in their disciplines and supplementing it with practical exposure. The visit was aimed at providing the students with an opportunity to get familiar with the production stages at Qatar steel’s manufacturing facilities and getting first-hand insight into general financial and accountancy, which the visiting students are specialized in. With the view to create a safer working environment, Qatar Steel celebrated occupational Safety and Health Day at its site in Mesaieed Industrial Area. A great number of employees and contractors attended the event. The program included presentations to generate awareness on security in general, heat stress, firefighting techniques, firefighting demonstration, road & traffic safety and etc. The event also included health tests to check up blood pressure, diabetes and others. Qatar Steel’s Safety Day aims at enhancing awareness on how to prevent the associated risks, and this year it focuses on ‘Falling from Height’ and to ensure that all employees must have access to training, handling equipment, and knowledge of preventative techniques before working at height. In recognition and appreciation of their efforts and dedication, Qatar Steel awarded 320 employees, who have completed 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years of service.  The ceremony was held at QAPCO’s Club in Mesaieed Industrial City. Qatar Steel, one of the leading steel producers in the Middle East and Arabian Gulf, achieved a record production of more than one million tons of rebar at RM II, the company’s ultra-modern rolling mill. Mr. Ali Bin Hassan Al-Muraikhi, Managing Director & General Manager of Qatar Steel, said: “This major achievement would not have been possible without the support and relentless efforts by our dedicated and motivated team to improve the company’s operational and maintenance efficiency.” RM II was commissioned in 2007 with a production capacity of 700,000 tons/annum of rebar with sizes ranging from 8 mm ф to 40 mm ф in diameter.
