In Algeria the foundation stone was laid for the construction of a steel complex in the industrial area in Bellara of Jijel province, 375 kilometers east of Algeria, the capital. The ceremony of laying the first stone of the project was held under the auspices of H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Prime Minister of Qatar, and his Algerian counterpart, HE Abdelmalek Sellal. High ranking officials from both sides attended the ceremony. The steel complex will be producing 2.0 Million tons of finished products of Re-bar and wire rod. Algeria (represented by Sider Co. & National Investment Fund) will hold 51% stake, while Qatar Steel International will hold the remaining 49% (represented by Qatar Steel 24,5%, and Qatar Mining 24,5%).


In line with its policy to support the local community, Qatar Steel presented a financial contribution to Qatar Red Crescent (QRC), in support of their program “6th disaster management training camp, which will be held under the patronage of H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Prime Minister and Interior Minister, from 1 – 10 April, 2014, at Al Khor Marine Scout Camp. On behalf of Qatar Steel management, Mr. Saud Mohammed Al Marri, Sales Manager handed over a check for the amount to Mr. Ahmed Al-Khulaifi, Head of PR Dept. at QRC. Qatar Steel participated in the 8th Annual Career Fair, held from 20th-21st Feb in the UK, and organized by the Qatar Embassy in London. A number of Qatari companies took part in this fair, which was attended by over 350 Qatari students studying in different universities and colleges in the UK. The two-day event aimed to attract ambitious and high performing Qatari students and graduates, who are pursuing their studies in the UK, and familiarize them with the job opportunities available after graduation, in addition to the scholarships and training programs offered by the companies to potential students.
