Within the framework of cooperation and collaboration, the National Human Rights Commission visited Qatar Steel and presented a lecture elaborating on the establishment of Human Rights Commission in Qatar and principles followed on the occasion of celebration of 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Mr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al Mahdi, Administration Division Manager at Qatar Steel expressed, ‘Qatar Steel is pro-active to human rights issues, and has shown strong interests in organizing this lecture at its plant site in conjunction with the celebrations of International Human Rights Day’. Qatar Steel Company, the first integrated steel plant in Middle East, hold its 34th forum of Quality Control Circle in Al Reem Club in Mesaieed. This is an important event on the company’s calendar, and was attended by MD & GM, Division Managers and Department Managers, other than the employees of the company. A group of thirty five industrial engineering students along with their academic staff from the College of Engineering of Qatar University visited Qatar Steel on November 5th to explore the steel making process and quality maintained through strict QA program. The aim for the visits was to show students what an actual steel plant looks like, and to encourage students to be the part of big steel workforce. By introducing students to steel making process, Qatar Steel’s learning and development provided a detailed induction program to the students on various aspects of operations. QU academic staff told, “The students were highly motivated and had realistic expectation to what they would encounter. This, together with the highly committed staff at Qatar Steel laid the basis for a good experience for the students.”

Qatar Steel celebrated the Occupational Health and Safety Day at its Head quarter in Mesaieed Industrial city, a celebration where the company takes into consideration of its community responsibility and the importance of maintaining health, safety and the environment. The ceremony was attended by Eng. Mohammed Bin Nasser Al-Hajri, Managing Director & General Manager, along with Division and Department Managers, employees from various Departments and Contractors. Within the framework of its commitment to corporate social responsibility, and in line with its ongoing support to the local community, Qatar Steel has recently organized, in cooperation with the Blood Bank Unit at Hamad Medical Corporation, a blood donation drive at its premises in Mesaieed Industrial City. Through this drive, Qatar Steel aims at promoting the employees’ awareness of the importance of blood donation, as a humanitarian initiative that serves the community at large. The blood drive was a success, thanks to the good response shown by Qatar Steel’s staff and also to their true belief in such a noble act. Eng. As part of P R Dept.’s welfare activity aimed at maintaining harmony within the employees and boast their productive morale, every year Annual Sports is organized. This year too it was organized which received huge response from all departments including office n plant staff. Sports is an important extracurricular activity; it releases mental tension, improves personality and develops public relationship. Enthusiastic employees participated in large numbers in six different sports, like, football, cricket, basketball, table tennis, long tennis and badminton. The month-long Annual Sports came to an end with athletes meet organized at MIC Sports complex on May 12, 2018. The winners and runners-up were awarded with cups and medal.

Industries Qatar has appointed Eng. Mohammed Nasser Mubarak A. Al-Hajri as Managing Director of Qatar Steel with effect from 1st May, 2018. Mr. Al- Hajri holds a Master’s degree in Gas Engineering from University of Salford in the United Kingdom and Bachelors’ degree in Chemical Engineering from Qatar University. He joined Qatar Petroleum in 1991 and has more than 26 years of experience in upstream and downstream. Mr. Al- Hajri has previously occupied various positions and responsibilities as Executive Vice President of Downstream Development Directorate of Qatar Petroleum and Vice Chairman of Industries Qatar Co. (IQ). He is currently VC of Qatar Fuel-Woqod (QSC) and also the Chairman of Ras Girtas Power Co.
