Qatar Steel recently conducted a series of sustainability training workshops, designed to give its employees an understanding of what it means for Qatar Steel to be sustainable, and how the company intends to invest in sustainability in the coming years. Participants also learned why sustainability is important in a global and regional context and how it is being implemented at a sector level through the  Qatar Energy & Industry Sector Sustainability (QEISS) Program launched by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, the Minister of Energy and Industry. The training program was delivered in partnership with Sustainability Excellence, one of the leading sustainability management consultancy firms in the region. With a view to enhance the social and interpersonal relations, Qatar Steel held the annual Day for employees and families at Aqua Park- Doha. The company’s PR & communications Dept. formed a committee from different departments, to help organizing this function. Everybody showed a high sense of responsibility and team work, which made the event a success. A great number of employees and their families attended the event, which lasted the whole day. It was a good opportunity for them to spend a nice and enjoyable day away from work pressure and routine busy day life. Through this event, Qatar Steel aims at creating recreational and entertainment activities, which would have positive impact on their performance and would further boost their motivation and productivity. In recognition and appreciation for their support and contributions to the organ donation program in Qatar, Qatar Steel, among other sponsors, were honored by the Organ Donation Center (Hiba) of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). About 56 living organ donors and their families were also awarded, for their contribution to the health of the nation and the organ donation program. The honoring ceremony was held on 28th Oct. 2014 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel under the patronage of HE Abdullah Bin Khalid Al-Qahtani, Minister of Public Health. The event was under the theme “Celebration of life”, and it was attended by His Excellency, Dr. Abdulla Bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Dr. Hanan Al Kuwairi, Managing Director of HMC. In pursuit of its objective to implement the quality Qatarization policy endorsed by the State of Qatar, Qatar Steel organized a career open day on 27th Sep, 2014, at Marriott Hotel- Doha. The aim of the event was to familiarize Qatari graduates with the job opportunities available and the academic qualifications required, as well as to brief them about the training programs provided. A team from HR and Training & Development Departments met the students and responded to their questions and queries. Qatar Steel gives absolute priority to its human resources, and is striving to ensure that Qatari nationals with the appropriate qualifications are recruited, developed, and retained for career employment in the company.  All necessary steps are taken for them to be advanced to their highest potential, provided that the quality and efficiency is maintained. Qatar Steel delivers on its commitment to sustainability by launching its third annual sustainability report. The report that re-emphasizes Qatar Steel’s commitment and approach to sustainability, captures the company’s sustainability framework, stakeholder map, key 2013 achievements, and includes several commitments that serve as catalyst for Qatar towards improving its sustainability performance. On the World Blood Donors’ Day, a blood donor recognition ceremony was held by Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), at St. Regis Hotel- Doha, under the patronage of HE Abdulla Bin Khaled Al-Qahtani, Minister of Public Health. Qatar Steel was one of the national companies who were honored for co-sponsoring the blood donors’ recognition ceremony, and also in appreciation for their role and valuable contributions to support and launch blood donation drives for their employees. As a rule, Qatar Steel organizes a blood donation drive every year, in coordination and cooperation with HMC, with the view of enriching its blood stock, and to help save the lives of the patients who are in sever need for blood. Within the framework of supporting the charitable, humanitarian, educational events and activities, Qatar Steel co-sponsored QSRPSN’s annual art and handicrafts expo, held at Marriott Hotel- Doha. The one day event was organized and inaugurated by QSRPSN’s educational and rehabilitation centers for girls, with the attendance of high officials from QSRPS, specialists and other concerned dignitaries. Art portraits and handicrafts were displayed, reflecting the special need students’ capabilities, talents and craft skills. Qatar Steel’s initiative to support and sponsor the expo emerged from the vital role played by QSRPSN, to rehabilitate the special need students, help them mingle with the community, realize their self-recognition and encourage them to further develop their artistic talents and potentials.

In appreciation of their significant contributions and dedication, Qatar Steel honored 131 employees, who have spent 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 years. The recognition ceremony was held on 29th May, 2014, at Four Seasons Hotel- Doha. In support of local community events and activities, Qatar Steel has participated, as a gold sponsor of « 1st Youth volunteer Forum», organized by Qatar Center for Voluntary Work (QCVA) from 18th-19th May, 2014 in the Students’ Center at Qatar Foundation. The objectives of the forum were to familiarize the public about the volunteering work, and to highlight the importance of volunteerism and the role of volunteers in the progress of the community and the prosperity of their country. The forum focused on the role of volunteering work in our community and the need to raise awareness of its importance, and the role that the Qatari voluntary organizations can play in serving the community. The activities of the forum highlighted the voluntary national institutions, and they included setting up a workshop and lectures on volunteering work, and holding a voluntary competition for local schools and voluntary centers.
