Qatar Steel participated in the Second Edition of Government Procurement & Contracting Conference and Exhibition ” Moushtarayat”. Which took place under the auspices of HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Interior Minister, and organized by Qatar Development Bank (QDB), in cooperation with Ministry of Finance, during 6- 8 April, 2017 at Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC). QS Annual Sports were held from 19th February to 13th March 2017 at MIC sports Complex and Al Reem club in Mesaieed. Teams from different departments were formed to compete with each other, and the activities included football, basketball, cricket, lawn tennis, badminton and table tennis. The closing ceremony was held on 13th March, 2017, and was attended by a great number of employees and their families. Mr. Saed M. Alroomi, PRO Manager distributed the prizes to the winners. Qatar Steel’s management is keen to carry out annual sports activities for its employees’ welfare and motivation, in addition to keep them healthy and fit.

Wakra 2

With a view to shed the light on job market requirements and to familiarize students and parents with the prospective career and academic paths available, Qatar Steel participated in the 6th Annual Career Fair for Universities & Work Sectors, organized by Al-Wakra Secondary School. The inauguration ceremony was held under the auspices of Mr. Mohamed Ali M. Mandani Al-Emadi, principal of Wakra Secondary school for boys and Mr. Ahmed Albueinin, Head of Trustees Council. Attended the event were school faculty, representatives of some educational institutions and public and private organizations, as well as government organizations and diplomatic missions accredited to Qatar. The event provides a good chance to Qatari high school students to meet with the employers and enquire about the job market requirements, and get insight into the academic and career options available. Qatar Steel participated in the Career Forum organized by Qatar University from 6th -9th March 2017, at the College of Business & Economics. Over 60 leading governmental and private organizations participated in the event, which was designed to provide ambitious, qualified and skilled students a platform to interact and engage directly with companies’ representatives and top prospective employers, to get insight into the work requirements and to find suitable job opportunities. Consistently with National Sports Day celebrations, Qatar Steel organized fun filled sports activities at the MIC Sports Complex in Mesaeed. Employees and their families were invited to participate in different sports activities planned for the day. The program consisted of a number of sports competitions and tournaments; football, basketball, handball, volleyball, cricket, tennis, short-distance running races. In addition to that, some other fun competitions were held, such as tug of war, recreational games for children like rope skipping and etc. Through celebrating the sports day, Qatar Steel aims at promoting the sports culture among our employees, encouraging them to do physical exercise on a regular basis, and make them indulge into sport as a routine and daily lifestyle. In coordination with the blood donor Centre at Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar Steel organized a blood donation drive at its plant site in Mesaieed. Employees from various departments and sections took part in the drive. The  blood donation drive comes in line with the company’s partnership and cooperation with the local medical organization, and in alliance of its corporate social responsibility policy, and in compliance with its humanitarian role to support the patients who are direly in need for blood, and to sustenance the blood stock in the hospital. A delegate of 35 PhD students from GCC Geographical Society visited Qatar Steel site in Mesaieed Industrial City on 15th Dec. 2015. They were escorted by some officials from Qatar University. The purpose of the visit was to view the company’s facilities and get a first-hand insight into steel manufacturing. The guests were welcomed by officials from Learning and Development Dept. and a presentation was given to them about the company’s steel making process, and rebar products. Later they were taken on a tour around the various units and sections of the plant. Upon leaving the company, the guests expressed their thanks and gratitude to Qatar Steel’s management for giving them the chance to visit the plant, and getting educated about steel making. It was such an exciting and useful experience for them, which might help them in their future careers.

With a view to attract and recruit national students, Qatar Steel organized a career open day, at the Marriott Hotel – Doha. Qatar Steel aims at familiarizing national students in general and the graduates in particular with the job opportunities available and the academic disciplines required, as well as to brief them about the training and development courses and internships programs the company provides. Qatar Steel has been awarded the ISO 27001: 2013 certification for Information Security Management Systems, in recognition of its standardized and best practices in effective IT infrastructure management and Information Security management. The move comes, as Qatar Steel is looking to leverage on domestic and international expertise to provide an integrated information security system, and to embrace global standards in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements to further enhance its business objectives.
