Qatar Steel organized its Annual Family Day for the Company’s employees and their families on 19 May. The 2011 edition of the annual event was held at Marah Land in Al Wakra Park. Qatar Steel’s 33rd Annual Family Day was part of the Company’s activities aimed at enhancing ties and relationships among the staff of all divisions and departments, producing friendly surroundings filled with fun away from the formalities of work, and creating an environment that balances work with life and is marked by trust and cooperation between the officials and the employees. Qatar Steel participated in PROJECT QATAR EXHIBITION 2011 which was held at Doha Exhibition Centre from 2 to 5 May, 2011. Qatar Steel was the proud exhibitor in the event. In its 8th consecutive year, Project Qatar 2011 was held under the patronage of HE Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor AlThani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Qatar Steel is participating in the 4th edition of Qatar Career Fair (QCF) 2011 as a pearl sponsor, which was inaugurated by under the kind patronage of HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Heir Apparent, on Sunday 10 April and will continue until Thursday, 14 April at the Qatar Exhibition Center. Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry the State of Qatar hosted the Arab Steel Summit 2011 in Marriott Doha on 4th April 2011 alongside with an International Exhibition for iron & steel, this event is organized by Arab Iron and Steel Union in coordination with the Qatar Steel. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Ali bin Hassan Al Muraikhi, Director and General Manager of Qatar Steel and attended by a large number of delegations from regional & International leading Iron & steel manufacturing companies particularly from the Arab world. The summit had been organized as a continuation of the successes seen in all the previous Arab Iron & Steel Union (AISU) annual events, the last of which was the «Arab Steel Summit 2010» held in Marrakech, Morocco.

Under the theme: “Blood donation is a charity and a humanitarian and national duty” As part of Qatar Steel Management’s commitment to interact and be involved with and serve the community in Qatar and firm belief that blood donation is noble way for serving humanity, Qatar Steel organized a blood donation campaign on Wednesday, 29 March 2011. The blood donation event took place in the Company’s premises in Mesaeid Industrial City with the participation of many of the Company’s staff members from various departments and divisions. With reference to the Steel demand in the local and GCC market, and to cope with the 2030 vision of State of Qatar, a new project is initiated in order to increase the overall production of Qatar Steel. The Plant will be located adjacent to the existing plants in Mesaieed, and is expected to be commissioned by the first quarter of 2013.. On 8th of March 2011 Mr. Ali Bin Hassan Al Muraiki Director and General Manager of Qatar Steel and Mr. Norbert Petermaier, Senior vice president of Siemens VAI signed a contract for  1.1 million tons/ year Steel Making Plant. The plant will have Siemens VAI’s Ultra High Power 110 Tons Electric Arc Furnace, 110 T Ladle Furnace and 6 strand High Speed Billet Caster coupled with Sophisticated Fume Extraction System for zero emission. In connection with the forthcoming mega event on the 40th anniversary of excellence and achievements in economic development of the State of Qatar, Qatar Steel has joined hands with the organizer QCCI as the diamond sponsor. During an official ceremony held today at QCCI Majlis, Qatar Steel’s Marketing Manager, Mr. Mohammed Al Saadi signed the contract with QCCI contributing Qr.250,000 towards sponsorship. The event is scheduled to be held on September 19, 2011 at Sheraton Doha and QCCI will host a high profile gala dinner in the evening followed by the launching of a commemorative book depicting the rich heritage of Qatar. Qatar Steel’s commitment to Qatariztion and Qatari staff qualification stems from a firm conviction of its importance and role in sustainable development. As part of this commitment, Qatar strives to develop the skills of young Qataris joining the Company and provide them with English courses under an agreement with the University of Cambridge through a special program for the new Qatari staff, under training, in Qatar Steel. According to the plan, the young Qatari staff received graduation certificates at the end of the course for having passed the course successfully. During this course, the graduates acquired skills in speaking, writing, reading and listening. Qatar Steel He Mr. Yousef Hussain Kamal, Minister of Economy and Finance, Chairman of Qatar Steel, has appointed Mr. Ali Bin Hassan Al Muraikhi as the Acting General Manager of Qatar Steel with effect from 4 November 2010. Al Muraikhi served as Director and General Manager of Qatar Metals Coating Company (Q-Coat), and Commercial Division Manager of Qatar Steel. Al Muraikhi joined Qatar Steel in 1981. He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the USA.
