Qatar Steel celebrated the National Day at its site in Mesaieed Industrial City, with the attendance of Mr. Ali Bin Hasan Al-Muraikhi, Director & General Manager, Division and department managers as well as a large number of staff. Qatar Steel’s Board of Directors has recently approved to increase the company’s stake in South Steel of Saudi Arabia, from 20.9% to 29.74% (by additional 9%), amounting to QS 90 million Saudi Riyals. South Steel, located in Jazan Economic Area in Saudi Arabia, consists of an integrated Steel melting complex, with a capacity of 1 million MTPA of Steel billets and 500,000 MTPA of Steel reinforcement bars. South Steel is currently meeting the requirements of local Saudi markets, and particularly the South Area. The surplus production is marketed to other areas inside Saudi Arabia and the neighboring markets of Yemen and Africa. In line with its ambitious vision to be universally recognized as a leading and constantly growing force in the steel industry of the region, and in light of its excellent business relations with local financial institutions, Qatar Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of Industries Qatar (IQ), has signed a subordinated loan facility agreement for a medium-term loan facility of USD 250 million (QAR 912.5 million), with a syndicate of two banks; the International Bank of Qatar (IBQ) and the Union National Bank (UNB). IBQ, the facility agent, will provide USD 150 million (QAR 547.5 million) of the project’s cost with UNB funding the remaining balance of USD100 (QAR 365 million). In support of the community’s environmental activities, Qatar Steel organized on 19/11/2011 a beach cleaning drive in Al-Wakra, in cooperation with Al Wakra Municipality. About 150 employees from the company have volunteered to participate in this event, which was held under the slogan “preserving the environment is one of our most important goals.” Al Qadisiya Model local primary school for boys has joined Qatar Steel in this drive, with about 50 volunteers. Qatar Steel’s environmental policy aims at preserving the environment and maintaining its cleanliness. As a rule, it communicates with various environmental bodies and authorities, to develop an environmental awareness culture in the society, and to warn all the individuals of the dangers of waste dumps in the coastal areas. Qatar Steel, the leading company in the domestic and GCC steel industry and the industrial edifice of Qatar, participated in the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the State of Qatar on 19 September 2011. The event was hosted by Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry to mark the inauguration of its commemorative book “Four Decades of Economic Development”, which highlights the economic development of the State of Qatar and its private sector. The ceremony was held under the the auspices of HE Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Bin Mohamed Al-Thani, Chairman of Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Qatar Steel organized its Annual Family Day for the Company’s employees and their families on 19 May. The 2011 edition of the annual event was held at Marah Land in Al Wakra Park. Qatar Steel’s 33rd Annual Family Day was part of the Company’s activities aimed at enhancing ties and relationships among the staff of all divisions and departments, producing friendly surroundings filled with fun away from the formalities of work, and creating an environment that balances work with life and is marked by trust and cooperation between the officials and the employees. Qatar Steel participated in PROJECT QATAR EXHIBITION 2011 which was held at Doha Exhibition Centre from 2 to 5 May, 2011. Qatar Steel was the proud exhibitor in the event. Under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry the State of Qatar hosted the Arab Steel Summit 2011 in Marriott Doha on 4th April 2011 alongside with an International Exhibition for iron & steel, this event is organized by Arab Iron and Steel Union in coordination with the Qatar Steel. The event was inaugurated by Mr. Ali bin Hassan Al Muraikhi, Director and General Manager of Qatar Steel and attended by a large number of delegations from regional & International leading Iron & steel manufacturing companies particularly from the Arab world. The summit had been organized as a continuation of the successes seen in all the previous Arab Iron & Steel Union (AISU) annual events, the last of which was the «Arab Steel Summit 2010» held in Marrakech, Morocco.
