Within the framework of honoring and recognizing the blood donors, a gala ceremony was held at Doha Sheraton Hotel, under the patronage of HE Abdulla Bin Khaled Al-Qahtani, Minister of Public Health and Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Health. The event was under the theme: “Every Blood Donor is a Hero”. Qatar Steel was honored as one of the national companies who greatly contributed to the success of the blood donors’ drives during 2011, and as one of the sponsors of the blood donors’ recognition ceremony 2012.  Qatar Steel was also recognized for its effective support and valuable contributions in this respect. In coordination with the Blood Unit at Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar Steel launched a blood donation drive at its premises in MIC. As a rule, Qatar Steel holds a blood donation drive annually, believing that all individuals in the community should take part in this noble act, to help increase and support the stocks of blood at the hospital. To enhance the social ties among staff, Qatar Steel held the annual family day at Doha Exhibitions Center, aiming at entertaining its staff, creating a pleasant family and fun atmosphere and drawing a smile and joy on their children’s faces. This event was attended by a great number of employees and their families. It was a good opportunity for them to spend a nice and enjoyable day away from work pressure and routine busy day life. The program included different fun activities, folkloric music and dancing shows, which reflected the heritage, traditions and cultures of different communities, and they won the admiration of the spectators. H.E. Dr. Mohamed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, Chairman of Qatar Petroleum awarded the three football teams who won the 15th Chairman’s Cup Tournament, which was held at Al-Ghazal Club in Ras Abou Aboud area. Amwaj team got the first position and was awarded the championship’s cup and golden medals, Kahrama team was the runner up, and got the silver medals, while Qatar Steel team came third and was awarded the bronze medals On behalf of Qatar Steel, Mr. Ahmed Abdul Aziz Al-Ansari, Commercial Division Manager, attended the awarding ceremony, and shared H.E. the minister in honoring the winning teams, the organizers and supervisors of the Tournaments. Qatar Steel team expressed their excitement for this victory and extended their deep thanks and gratitude to top management and all employees for their continual support and encouragement throughout the tournaments. Qatar Steel participated in the 9th edition of Project Qatar 2012, held at Doha Exhibition Center from 30th April – 3rd May, 2012, under the auspices of HE Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al-Thani, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. “Project Qatar 2012” is Qatar’s most important leading International Trade Exhibition for Constructions, Building Materials, Equipment and Technology, and it attracted more than 2000 exhibitors from 48 countries. In culmination of the persistent efforts to protect the environment, and recycle the industrial wastes,resulted from steel manufacturing, for better reuse and reinvestment, and within the framework of consolidating and strengthening the co-operation ties between Qatar Steel and the private sector, Qatar Steel has signed a sale and recycling slag contract with Slag Aggregate Producer (S.A.P), located in Doha. The sale contract was signed by Mr. Ali Bin Hassan Al-Murakhi, Director and General Manager of Qatar Steel, and Sheikh Khaled Bin Hamad Bin Jassim Al-Thani, Managing Director of SAP. High officials of both sides attended the signing ceremony. As per this contract, Qatar Steel shall sell to SAP one million ton of slag as steel wastes. To commemorate the completion of the 6- months training program given by Qatar Steel to the second batch of Saudi South Steel trainees, a celebration was held at Doha Mariette Hotel, with the attendance of HE Mr. Hindi Bin Nayef Bin Humaid, Advisor of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in the State of Qatar. In Support of the Emiri Decree No. (80), passed by HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, for assigning the second Tuesday of every February as a National Sports Day, Qatar Steel, in partnership and cooperation with MIC management, organized today a sports program to celebrate this event. The company has invited all staff and their families to attend and take part in different sports activities planned to be held in Mesaeed, on the sports day, including football, basketball, handball, volleyball, cricket, tennis, rugby, golf, short-distance running races.
