As part of its constant initiatives to extend its international network, promote its brand image, and further enhance its trade and economic relations, Qatar Steel participated in 8th World Chambers Congress, which was held from 22-25 April, 2013, at Qatar National Conventions Center. The year’s biggest international gathering of chamber and business leaders was held under the theme “Opportunities for all”, and it was hosted by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), in partnership with the Qatar Chamber. The congress is held regularly every two years in a different region of the world, but this year it is held for the first time in the Middle East. The World Chambers Congress brought together chambers from over 100 countries and key policy makers. In compliance with its Qatarization plan, and in line with its strategy to attract Qatari manpower to join the company, Qatar Steel participated in Qatar Independent Technical School’s career fair. Leading Industrial companies along with a number of local universities and colleges also took part in the event. This initiative comes within the framework of continual cooperation existing between Qatar Steel and QITS, aiming at familiarizing Qatari graduates with job opportunities available at the company’s various departments, and to encourage them to start their careers at the company in the future. As a rule, Qatar Steel attaches a great importance to technical education, aiming at qualifying technical national manpower to contribute towards building up and development of local industries in Qatar. In pursuit of its objective to implement the quality Qatarization policy endorsed by the State of Qatar, Qatar Steel effectively participated in Qatar’s Career Fair, inaugurated by HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Heir Apparent, from 1-6 April 2013, at Qatar Conventions Centre. The six day event was organized by Qatar Foundation, Qatar Petroleum, Qatar University and Ministry of Labor. Qatar Steel was inspired by the main vision and mission of the organizers of Career fair, which lie in encouraging fresh national graduates to join the industrial sector, offering job opportunities to highly motivated and promising people, and providing them with all required training in order to get them qualified for their prospective careers. As part of its marketing strategy to enhance its cooperation ties with its local and regional accredited traders, Qatar Steel hosted its Traders’ 10th Annual Gathering. An official ceremony was held at St. Regis Hotel –Qatar, in honor of all Qatar Steel’s traders, and in recognition and appreciation of their devoted efforts. The ceremony was attended by a large number of traders and distributers, both locally and regionally. Qatar Steel officials, on top of them were Mr. Ali Bin Hasan Al-Muraikhi, Director General Manager of Qatar Steel, division and department managers, senior employees, in addition to other dignitaries and high ranking officials. In his inaugural address, Mr. Al-Muraikhi expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all the traders for taking time off their busy schedules to engage in fruitful interactions and meetings with Qatar Steel officials. Doha- Qatar The governments of Qatar and Algeria have decided to enter into a joint venture, for the construction of a steel complex in Algeria, at the industrial Area of Bellara, (Jijel). The planned steel complex will have a total production capacity of 4 million tons per year, while it is designed to produce 2 million tons of steel rebars in its first phase.  (1,5 MT of steel rebars & 500,000 Tons of Wiring rod,) to meet the requirements of the local market, on a priority basis. The joint venture was signed by the two sides on 7th Jan. 2013, while the shareholders’ agreement was signed on 24th March, 2013, for the construction and operation of the steel complex. Algeria (represented by Sider Co. & National Investment Fund) will hold 51% stake, while Qatar Steel International will hold the remaining 49% (represented by Qatar Steel 24,5%, and Qatar Mining 24,5%). In honor and recognition of its excellence in sustainability reporting, and in compliance with sustainable development, Qatar Steel has been recently awarded, among some leading industrial companies in Qatar, for excellence in sustainability reporting. The awarding ceremony was held under the auspices of HE Dr. Mohamed Bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry, Chairman of QP and managing Director. Qatar Steel, among seven large-scale leading industrial companies in Qatar, was awarded “Runner-Up Certificate for its commitment towards sustainable development, and for the quality and credibility of its sustainable report. Qatar Steel’s 2012 sustainability report included a comprehensive demonstration of the company’s performance in environmental, social and economic domains. The report was produced as per the directives of the company’s Board in this respect, demonstrating the company’s commitment to the long-term growth and development, as well as various sustainability initiatives and projects undertaken by Qatar Steel. Within the framework of familiarizing Qatari students with the job disciplines and opportunities available at Qatar Steel, and in line with the cooperation existing with occupational and academic institutions, to attract Qatari cadets to join the company, and in compliance with its constant efforts to implement its corporate Quality Qatarization policy, Qatar Steel participated in the Career Fair, held on 10th March, 2013 at Al-Wakra Secondary Independent School. Promotional booklets and corporate publications were displayed at the stand. QS Officials met students and made presentations about the company’s internship programs that can be given after finishing their High school. They listened to students’ questions in this respect, and responded to all their queries. SteelOrbis conference happens twice in a year and is usually participated by Qatar Steel. In the Spring Conference 2013, Qatar Steel has its presence in the event guide, promotional items, like roll up, printed material, etc. backdrop banner, ambience branding and a networking stand. Stylishly designed, the stand is a networking point for the delegates and will also serve as showcasing point for QS products and services. The event attracted more than 300 participants from the steel related industry; it will be a fitting opportunity for them to meet and exchange views, and to hear presentations from expert professionals on various regional and world markets.

Qatar Steel -Within the framework of supporting and promoting the Qatari industries and products, Qatar Steel is participating, as a sector sponsor, in ‘Made in Qatar’ exhibition, which was inaugurated today under His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Heir Apparent, and which is currently being held from 16-18 Jan. 2013 at Doha Exhibition Center. The three-day event is organized by Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Industry. The sponsorship agreement was signed between QCCI and Qatar Steel last December. Qatar Steel is widely recognized as one of the leading companies in the steel industry, and it was established in 1974 as the first integrated steel plant in the Arabian Gulf.
