Qatar Steel increases its stake in South Steel up to 29.74%
Qatar Steel’s Board of Directors has recently approved to increase the company’s stake in South Steel of Saudi Arabia, from 20.9% to 29.74% (by additional 9%), amounting to QS 90 million Saudi Riyals.

Qatar Steel Signs a USD 250 million Loan Facility Agreement with IBQ & UNB
In line with its ambitious vision to be universally recognized as a leading and constantly growing force in the steel industry of the region, and in light of its excellent business relations with local financial institutions, Qatar Steel, a wholly owned subsidiary of Industries Qatar (IQ), has signed a subordinated loan facility agreement for a medium-term loan facility of USD 250 million (QAR 912.5 million), with a syndicate of two banks; the International Bank of Qatar (IBQ) and the Union National Bank (UNB). IBQ, the facility agent, will provide USD 150 million (QAR 547.5 million) of the project’s cost with UNB funding the remaining balance of USD100 (QAR 365 million).

Qatar Steel launches Al-Wakra Beach Cleaning Drive
In support of the community’s environmental activities, Qatar Steel organized on 19/11/2011 a beach cleaning drive in Al-Wakra, in cooperation with Al Wakra Municipality.
About 150 employees from the company have volunteered to participate in this event, which was held under the slogan "preserving the environment is one of our most important goals."
Al Qadisiya Model local primary school for boys has joined Qatar Steel in this drive, with about 50 volunteers.

Unique Celebration of 40th Anniversary of State of Qatar Foundation (1971-2011)
Qatar Steel, the leading company in the domestic and GCC steel industry and the industrial edifice of Qatar, participated in the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the State of Qatar on 19 September 2011. The event was hosted by Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry to mark the inauguration of its commemorative book “Four Decades of Economic Development”, which highlights the economic development of the State of Qatar and its private sector. The ceremony was held under the the auspices of HE Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Bin Mohamed Al-Thani, Chairman of Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

As part of Qatar Steel Management’s commitment to interact and be involved with and serve the community in Qatar and firm belief that blood donation is noble way for serving humanity, Qatar Steel organized a blood donation campaign on Wednesday, 29 March 2011. The blood donation event took place in the Company’s premises in Mesaeid Industrial City with the participation of many of the Company’s staff members from various departments and divisions.

QATAR STEEL COMPANY PLANS TO EXPAND ITS STEEL MAKING FACILITY
With reference to the Steel demand in the local and GCC market, and to cope with the 2030 vision of State of Qatar, a new project is initiated in order to increase the overall production of Qatar Steel. The Plant will be located adjacent to the existing plants in Mesaieed, and is expected to be commissioned by the first quarter of 2013.

Milestone Achievement: HBI Shipment to Japan

QATAR STEEL Signs a Long-Term Industrial Gas Supply Agreement with GASAL
QATAR STEEL COMPANY, the first integrated steel company in the region has signed a long term agreement with GASAL, Qatar’s leader in industrial gases supply. GASAL, a subsidiary of Qatar Petroleum, Air Liquide and QIMC will supply all new industrial gases requirements (Oxygen, Nitrogen and Liquid Argon) of QATAR STEEL plants located in Mesaieed Industrial City.

Qatar Steel Upgrade production capacity by 30 percent
Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Thani, Director and General Manager of Qatar Steel and Mr.Friedhelm Wagener, Vice president M/s Siemens VAI together signed a contract on 2nd June 2010 connected to the Supply & Installation services of Core Equipment for the existing melt shop Upgrade Project.
